As shown below, we can find
these manifestations in scripture. If
they occur in the name of the Lord, I cannot correct that. However, if they become more of a priority
than they are in the word of God, then I can address the imbalance. Let’s first get a scriptural perspective:

FALSELY ACCUSED OF » The Apostles (Acts 2:13-15)
1 Samuel 1:12-16 (New International Version)
12 As she kept on praying to the LORD, Eli observed her mouth. 13 Hannah was praying in her heart, and her lips were moving but her voice was not heard. Eli thought she was drunk 14 and said to her, "How long will you keep on getting drunk? Get rid of your wine."
15 "Not so, my lord," Hannah replied, "I am a woman who is deeply troubled. I have not been drinking wine or beer; I was pouring out my soul to the LORD. 16 Do not take your servant for a wicked woman; I have been praying here out of my great anguish and grief."
Ephesians
5:18
Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be
filled with the Spirit.
Ephesians
5:17-19 (in Context) Ephesians
5 (Whole Chapter)
"Thou hast put gladness in my heart, more than when the grain and new wine abound." PS 4:7
So I concede that sometimes people seem drunk when they are really worshipping God, or moved by the Holy Spirit. However, staying “drunk in the spirit” for days, months, and even years at time seems excessive and disorderly. Check out http://www.johnscotland.org/Interviews.asp?SubMenu=Yes&MenuName=5 if you want to see an interview with a preacher who has been drunk for over 6 years. He sings worldly Rock and Roll tunes from the pulpit. The crowd’s laughter interrupts his “preaching”.
The bible speaks of a time for (Ecclesiastes 3:4) laughing. 6 years? What about all of God’s more important commands? Like decent and orderly worship?
I encourage you, the reader,
to “eagerly desire” the more gifts of the Spirit. One of these gifts is a “discernment of
spirits”. It comes in handy when
fellowshipping with those who have opened themselves up to occult powers by
seeking the gifts of the Holy Spirit more than the Giver. I don’t fellowship in “3rd Wave”
circles anymore, but if you do, test everything (1
Thessalonians 5:20-22), and do not
receive every spirit—especially not a spirit of
New

Remember that the purpose of the miraculous gifts of the Holy Spirit is to strengthen the Church in its obedient pursuit of the great commission. Seeking the gifts at the expense of obedience can open one up to other spirits. The devil offers a counterfeit of that which God also offers.
